An interesting story based on Semantic Web or Web Intelligence or Web 3.0
Web 3.0 or Web Intelligence or Wisdom Web
Consider a possible scenario happening next year, at the event of
ICC T20 World Cup 2014 which will kickoff at Dhaka .
The story is about an interaction between the Wisdom Web and a
user. Here the user is a Canadian tourist / spectator , 'Briyan Adams' (Imaginary..just think of anybody...) who has just arrived Dhaka
to watch the inaugural ceremony of the world cup and would like to find a
schedule of the matches at Mirpur.
So he walks into the cyber cafe of the hotel
he is staying and decides to get some practical wisdom from a public Wisdom Web
outlet. He logs in with a user name, “Adams”, and asks:
“What are the T20 World Cup 2014 matches that will be played
at Mirpur stadium ?”
The Wisdom Web thinks for about a second or two and then responds:
“Hello Mr. Adams!!, You might be looking for a schedule of Twenty
20 World Cup Cricket 2014 matches at Mirpur Shere Bangla Cricket Stadium . Here
it is :
Bangladesh Vs India (Group A), March 16,2014 Sunday 7.30 pm,
Pakistan Vs Australia (Group B), March 17, 2014 Monday 10 am,
Canada Vs New Zealand, (Group A) March 20, 2014 Thursday 10 am,
W.Indies Vs South Africa, (Group B) March 21, 2014 Friday 7.30 pm,
Canada Vs India (Group A) March 24, 2014 Monday 10 am,
South Africa Vs Australia (Group B) March 25, 2014 Tuesday 10 am,
Would you like to go to watch one or two of them?”
Adams replied, “Yes, I’ll go for the matches at 20th and 24th March. My home team, Canada is playing these two."
Then the Wisdom Web suggests:
“As far as I know, there are still some tickets left and you may
purchase some from one of the temporary ticket sales points for the World Cup
just beside the SAARC Fountain at Karwan Bazar. That is the closest point to
your current position.”
Now he decides that this could be an interesting event for him...
Two days later, Mr. Hooks arrives at the cricket ground, but
surprisingly finds he forgot to notice that today’s match has been delayed as
the ground is wet and unfit for the match due to the heavy rain and the summer
storm last night. Luckily the sun is out again...!! Hope fully it will
dry up quickly as the ground stuffs are working hard and they have drained out
he trapped water already. Suddenly..!!, there is an official declaration on the
giant screen that the match has been delayed to get the still wet field to be
fully match fit and it will start at 1:30 pm local time. That’s exactly 3
hours from now.!!! .As he is a bit disappointed, Adams notices that there is a
free Wisdom Web Kiosk at a corner of the stadium.
Well, that’s convenient...!!
So, without too much hesitation, he logs on to the Wisdom Web,
again as “Adams”. The Wisdom Web still remembers his conversation two days ago.
As soon as it recognizes that it's “Adams”, it says to him:
“Hello Mr. Adams!, I have learned that the match has
been delayed."
“Yuh!, Now I don’t know how to spend these hours .
The local crowd is heading out. Is there any interesting place around the
stadium where I can spend some time?” Hooks asks the web.
Again the Wisdom Web takes two or three seconds to think and then
replies, " If you don't have any other plan you can spend some hours
at the Mirpur National Zoo before the match starts. It’s just 3 or 4 kilometers
away from the stadium. I think you can have a nice time there."
Eyes lit up!, Adams gets excited at this, “Great !!!, I think
that’s a fantastic idea!” , and asks “How can I get there ?”.
“Well! if you decide to go you can find many zoo bound public
transports at the stadium's bus stop to get there.” Replies the WW.
“Okay , I’m signing off right now and heading for the bus stop.
Thank you very much for the information”. Adams decides right away.
“That’s a pleasure!. Have a good day Mr. Adams!!” says the Wisdom
Web.

Comparison between EDIFACT and X.12
Comparison between EDIFACT and X.12:
References: Wikipedia and www.edpipeline.com
X.12:
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in 1979 developed a common set of standards for inter-industry electronic exchange of business transactions ie. for the electronic data interchange (EDI) which was named ”ANSI ASC X.12” . ASC stands for Accredited Standard Committee. The whole acronym ANSI ASC X.12 stands for "American National Standards Institute Accredited Standards Committee X12". Here the designation of X.12 is only a sequential designator assigned by ANSI at the time of accreditation.
Not surprisingly, it was not well accepted in Europe as a standard for EDI transactions as X.12 only recognized US Dollar as the currency for trade.
UN/EDIFACT:
So it was in 1986 when the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) approved the acronym "UN/EDIFACT”. It stands for United Nations Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce and Transport.
It was actually an extension from X.12 with provision to exchange credits in other European currencies and to meet the needs of both government and private industry.
UN/EDIFACT is developed and maintained by UN/EDIFACT Working Group or EWG, a permanent working group of United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT).
Mapping between EDIFACT and X.12:. All though both ANSI X.12 and UN/EDIFACT are the two recognized standards for EDI, The UN/EDIFACT is an international standard that will most likely be adopted by US companies. An EDI document is called a "Transaction Set" in ANSI X.12, and is called a "Message" in UN/EDIFACT. X.12 might be still in use in the USA but most of the world uses UN/EDIFACT transaction sets.
A partial list of the most popular transaction sets is given below:
TRANSACTION SET/DOCUMENT ANSI X.12 EDIFACT
PRODUCT/PRICING TRANSACTIONS
Price Sales Catalog 832 PRICAT
Price Authorization and acknowledgement status 845 ATHSTS
Request For Quotation 840 REQOTE
Response to Request for Quotation 843 QUOTES

Part of the assignment on Web2.0
Q2 .How can Web 2.0 help E-Commerce?
Answer:
With the introduction of Web 2.0, the true concept of E-Commerce has come in practice and E-commerce is getting admiration world wide as a powerful media of trade with options for a lot of interactive trade operations.
Some effect of Web 2.0 on E-Commerce is mentioned below:
Web 2.0 sites are all about more interaction with your visitors/customers:
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a feature of Web 2.0. It is a standard format to pass information (like HTML). RSS provides the means for Web contents to be available for “feeding” (distribution or syndication) from an online publisher to consumers. Latest browser version provides RSS feeders/readers what let’s the subscriber know if any thing new is posted on those RSS feeds of any site. There is no need to go back to the site to check updates. The traffic for the site, user acceptance and popularity of an E-Commerce website can be increased by just entering the URL of other sites for RSS feeds that the users/customers may be interested in.
Allows users of social bookmarking websites to share links with other users and friends:
Web 2.0 provides the option for social bookmarking. Social bookmarking allows the web publishers and users to store tagged pages on the web and lets them to be accessed from any computer. This way a user of a web site using feature shares links with other users and friends.
Some examples of social bookmarking sites:del.icio.us, Furl.net, RawSugar, BackFlip ,BlinkList .
An owner of an E-Commerce web site that hasn’t yet been ranked by the popular search engine Google can place their links on this highly ranked social bookmarking sites.
